Avis 72044 Hawker Cygnet with Anzani engine

Hawker Cygnet was a biplane, British, ultralight, fixed-chassis racing plane, which was first flown in 1924. In total, only two copies of this machine were built. The plane was 6.22 meters long with a wingspan of 8.53 meters. It was powered by a single Bristol Cherub III engine or an Anzani or ABC Scorpion engine. The top speed (with the Cherub III engine) was 132 km / h. The machine did not have on-board weapons.

Hawker Cygnet was designed by Sydney Camm - one of the best British aircraft constructors of the 1930s and 1940s, who became famous many years later with such designs as the Hawker Hurricane or Hawker Hunter. The machine was designed and built to take part in the Light Aircraft Competition organized by the Royal Aero Club. The pilots taking part in these planes took 3rd and 4th place, and later the machine also took part in other aviation competitions. Originally, both were powered by different engines, but units were installed on them in 1926 Bristol Cherub III with 34 HP. Interestingly, a single plane Hawker Cygnet survived World War II and was donated to the Royal Air Foce Museum in Hendon in 1972 and is now at RAF Cosford in Shropshire.
