Type EF65 is the type designation for Japanese electric locomotives from the post-war period. Locomotives of this type were produced in the years 1965-1979. In total, 308 of these rail vehicles were built. The weight of a single locomotive was 96 tons, and its length with buffers - 16.5 meters. The locomotives were adapted to a rail gauge of 1067 mm. Their axis arrangement is Bo-Bo-Bo. The EF65 locomotives were developed as the new basic locomotives of Japanese National Railways based on the previous series of locomotives, designated as EF60. Both types of locomotives were very similar to each other in terms of design and appearance, with the EF65 having a higher maximum speed. From the outset, it was assumed that the EF65 served both passenger and freight rolling stock. It is worth adding that the production of these locomotives was carried out by several large companies, mainly: Fuji Electric, Kawasaki and Toshiba. In April 2016, 52 locomotives of this type remained in use in Japan.
