In 2006, the British Armed Forces British Armed Forces had approximately 196,000 soldiers in active service. About 100,000 of this number served in the British Army, which was reduced to about 84,000 by 2015. It is worth adding that on a fairly large scale - especially in Afghanistan - lightly armored Jackal vehicles were used. British armored forces successfully participated in the First Gulf War (1990-1991) and in the intervention in Iraq in 2003.
